I found another example, in RPGLE (so I understand it little bit better...)

I get the FIELDPROC to attach, but it doesn't seem to do anything...
i.e. when I INSERT a record, then display it, there is no encryption, or masking going on...

does someone have a example that will
hide middle characters, like in a SSN "31X-XX-X622"
or a better yet...
a varying mask depending on who you are
