Once had a customer with the rack server not built into a rack but settled on
a wooden table without any proper grounding. Lots of dead disk drives,
every some months system not booting up, some months ago full system failure
where mainboard (or: server box) needed to be swapped. Check the grounding
of your environment (besides the backplane mentioned by Chris)

What's causing these drives to fail? Each drive having an isue? Or something else in the system?
