In SQL you can call any of the aggregate functions you need (SUM, AVG, MIN, MAX, COUNT ...) and in order for them to work you have to use the GROUP BY clause. Because SQL is not a reporting tool by itself, it will not easily create a detail report with summary breaks. You only get one or the other per SELECT statement.

In the old Query/400 you can specify fields to break on, and have a total if you want.
to convert this to SQL would you call this feature as GROUP BY?
