Sure you can and it works well. No issues I am aware of, I've been doing it since V7 came out to systems as low as V4R3. Anything the OS does not support will not show up in the menus, and with older OSs sometimes communications gets a bit funky, but I've had no issues with V5R4 and newer. Remember to apply the patches.
