In the days of the System 38, there was a timer with a "plunger finger"
appendage to press the Enter button on the S/38 console keyboard once
"Charlie-5" was set for "Normal IPL" on the panel.
It was a third-party device meant for European customers, where the cost
of power was 3 or 4 times the cost of the U.S.
So shutting down the System /38 overnight made sense.
Customers loved it since it had the box up and running by the time
people arrived in the morning.

I would venture a guess that Dr. Franken could engineer a little
robotic arm that would reach out on command and press the power button.
