The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

Worse yet. The user has update to the file and changes a field in a row
on the spreadsheet. You watch that update run through all the rows in
the in the spreadsheet and they are connected via OBDC. You database
was just updated, usually incorrectly. The right way is to have
management prioritize and hire the necessary resources to get the job
done.

You make a humourous introduction to a very real problem. The user
community _are_ doing that very thing today, with the Excel spreadsheets
that they built when we in IT fell so far behind that they gave up on
us.
Now, not only do we have end users altering that data at will, but each
department has a separate, unsynchronised copy of that data, each copy
customised for their personal use.
I think all here agree that giving the end user community free
command-line SQL access to the raw database is not the answer either,
but what is?
