I remember upgrading from V5R1 to V5R2 using image catalogues. It wasn't
there initially, but IBM went back and retro-fitted V5R1 to support the
upgrade. That is why you have the STRVRTINS vs using the PWRDWNSYS command.

Didn't that link say going from V5R1 to V5R3?
I'd check the V5R2 infocenter's "Software Installation" to see if it
mentioned Image catalogs. See also the V5R2 "Memo To Users".

Image catalogs are either going to work, or not work. But not partially

and damage your system.
