Actually, in retrospect, this may not be quite what you want. It will
identify the first row FOLLOWING the gap. (And if you change to "myseq-1"
instead of "myseq+1" you will get the last row PRECEDING the gap. The act
of tying the two together will likely be cumbersome. :)


Given a key sequence in a file, really just a series of numbers, does
anybody know of an algorithm, other than brute force, for finding gaps
in the sequence?

Here's an SQL solution:

SELECT A.myseq
FROM mytable A
WHERE myseq NOT IN (
SELECT myseq+1
FROM mytable
)
