What am I missing?

Perhaps an object with a non-displayable name?

Try the EDITF option 9=Recursive delete: EDTF '/dir1/dir2') and take
9 against the DIRECTORY.

Try a Unix remove from QSH or QP2TERM: rm -rf /dir1/dir2
