Hello,
I am working with a Java compatible data base that is using Graphic
fields with CCSID of 13488 (UCS-2 data) for all the character fields.
The numeric fields are all packed.
The problem is that WRKDBF can not handle UCS-2 (unless you want to work
with DBCS Hex). When you get the initial summary display, all you see
is the numbers. When you try to display the record or update the record
you must switch to Hex to see the character data or make changes to the
character data.
I have used Bruce Vining's suggestion (Thank you Bruce) and created a
logical file over the physical file, changing all the graphics (G)
fields to character fields (A) and the summary display in WRKDBF works
great - all the graphics fields are converted to regular character
fields. However, when I try to display the record detail or change the
record from the logical view, it gives me errors such as "Invalid data
in field "OKDIVI". Use Hex mode to change." and it can not display the
character fields. I think that these options are getting the data from
the RRN in the physical file.
Does anyone have any experience with these types of files and some of
the other utilities like DBU, EZVIEW, or the Linoma one? Is there
something out there that will automatically convert the CCSID 13488
fields to CCSID 37 so I can read them and change them? I know that SQL
will translate them, but I would like to find a tool like WRKDBF or DBU
that would work for us.
Thanks
Dave
