Many enterprise java applications are not supported under Tomcat. That can
be a killer argument.
I am going to call you on this one just because I don't usually see things
like "Runs best on WAS/JBoss" :-) Where are you getting your info?
Usually what I see is "xyz application requires a server adhering to Servlet
spec version x.x".

It's also interesting to note that the IBM Web Query (5733-QU2) is using
Tomcat instead of WAS Express.

Do people that run Websphere Application Server know you can run Tomcat with
a fraction of a footprint?
I would make a safe guess to say that there are more than 100 times the
installations of Tomcat running out there vs. WAS.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the only reason WAS has an advantage is
because you can use EJB's. And EJB's are good if you want to spread
processing over multiple pieces of hardware. How many people are using
multiple iSeries for a single J2EE application? I would guess not too many
because of the iSeries' reputation.
John, have you considered Apache's Tomcat? You can download it right from
Apache and install it on your i5. With WAS you are paying top dollar for
features probably not even being used.

WebSphere 5.x for our production instance of JDPeopOracle's EnterpriseOne is
in Sys Pool 3. That's just one job & it's a dynamic shared pool so it grew
that big.
WAS is an absolute RAM PIG.

In my experience, 1GB of memory and 35GB of disk (which was pretty much
standard on both machines) is too little, especially if you plan on doing
any Java work, and even moreso if you want to do WebSphere.
WebSphere runs much better if it has memory in a separate pool from the rest
of the system, and I usually like to give it at least 512MB. And 35GB of
disk tends to fill up quickly, especially if you do client projects.
