I remember in earlier releases (not sure if V4R5) but a live ethernet cable must be plugged in for the ethernet card to vary on. Also, tcp ip must be started. In the last ipl should have msgs if tcp ip started successfully. jim
I IPL'd powered off and moved the card to another slot, of the same pci type (IPCS Feature Card) however although the card was reported operational I still had a vary on failed error even with the tcp subsystem running. I have tried many combinations of line eth definitions, also compared to another working line on another machine. The only time I saw all the lights on the nic was on IPL for a brief second then that was it - so I suspect a nic card hardware problem. The cable is plugged into a live socket. I do not have another card to check with, however may be able to convince the boss with this information to obtain another card so we can test. Thanks Damian B
