Sunny:

Synon has been rebranded several times as it moved from a Synon to a
part of Sterling to now part of CA. CA is the current owner and they
call the product AllFusion.

If you are maintaining an application, there should documentation for
the tool somewhere. It helps to know what it was called when the site
used it. It has been known as Cool and Advantage, too.

There are also mostly empty Wikis about AllFusion Plex (Obsydian) and
AllFusion 2E. I don't think there's a bunch of free resources on
AllFusion. Otherwise, Hawkbridge sells training for AllFusion.

If you are creating an application from scratch, there are other
application tools you can look at that have a less steep learning curve
and are cheaper also, but are less capable. Most of them are RPG based.
These tools can help you produce a nice application quickly.

If you really want (or need) a COBOL tool, try to find Easy Tool Kit or
ETK (by Leif Svalgaard among others). This is a great tool. You can
develop on a PC and push the application to any platform. Or develop on
the System i and deploy it to a Unix. There is a tool called Libero by
iMatix that is derived from ETK that you can look at too.

The IBM Information Center has advanced information on SQL and COBOL.
There are books and other internet resources for both SQL and COBOL on
the System i.
