First I am talking about Domino and not the OS/400 basic SMTP server. The
question was about running e-mail for 20 to 30 users on OS/400 or not. I am
suggesting Domino is perfectly capable of handling that task and is certainly
worth a look. David doesn't like it because he can't get it to work with his
archaic messaging board.

Off topic I am suggesting its unfortunate that others are quick to run to off
to M$, and go buy another server. Fine for you if you sit in a machine room all
day. I believe the poster is a consultant that helps the client on an
occasional basis. From the way this thread is going, the suggestions have been
to find an old clunky pc, install Linux and some open-sores email software and
call it a day. yeah right --- how is that going to get backed up? oh now you
need to find backup hardware and software. What, I can't use my DLT? Sorry no
good drives for that old clunky pc you got there. What happens when the disk
crashes and he's offsite? What, you didn't install RAID?? Sorry, you lost
everything, lets start over. And next time be sure to pick up a UPS. Oh, I
forgot maybe we may want to mirror that someday. So what happens when the
consultant is gone, who's the customer gonna call when something breaks? No OS
support, no hardware support, oh sorry didn't buy the overpriced open-source
support option. well it wouldn't have helped you anyway because your
consultant had to customize some code, and .. So where does customer to turn
to? This board? Please ...

David says "

Additionally, if something goes horribly wrong with your

linux system, you have the option of just shutting it off to stop

whatever is happening. Few organizations can just 'shut off' their iSeries.
"

David, for the record, ENDDOMSVR < PWRDWNSYS(*IMMED). Don't even imply that in
order to restart Domino you have to shut off your iSeries. Have you ever used
Domino on iSeries??

I agree with David. We must act as serios professionals, not fanatics.
I very much dislike the limitations of the AS 400 respect to mail, I
find it strange, but we must realize the strength and limitations of or
favorite platform. Recomending an AS 400 for a task where it is not the
best will cause the plataform to appear as a not so good.
