This was my first (nearly full) Common I ever attended and the third one I have been to in a 22 year midrange "life".

There was a combination of things that had me arrive "late" and "leave" early (got in Sunday and left Thursday afternoon). Flight schedules and "exploding head" all part of the mix. Not sure there is a single solution that would work for everybody. I just had gotten in from a consulting assignment on Friday so I was none to eager to travel again on Saturday so I chose Sunday to travel. Coming from the west means even with an early start you get in late. So I missed most of the Sunday events, however, I did make it in for the Expo (Food!).

Jon mentioned the "single track" vs the "butterfly" approach. I did "butterfly" this conference but what I suggested at the MOM on Wednesday was a summary --> detail approach with general tire-kicking sessions early in the week and solution specific labs later in the week. You really can't know what you want to do in depth until you have a flavor of what the solution provides. Not sure if this would have changed my travel schedule: The Marriot was an expensive place to camp out. It can be difficult to find cheap flights on Fridays.

Best bet is perhaps what Jon suggested (a single track conference) but after dropping $2000+ for Common, it is tough to justify yet another "employee development" expense, although my company has been generous.

I loved Common though. It was a great experience and I'd recommend it to just about anybody who is in iSeries development (unless you are NOT interested in drinking out the fire hose for a week...)
