Thanks Joe and to everyone who responded. I guess I'll go with PHP for now.
Like I have time to learn yet another technology! :-)

I long for the day in the future when everyone is wearing the same silver
jumpsuit with a big "V" on the front, and eating soylent blue (not solyent
green though...that one is just too distasteful to contemplate) and where
thinking for a living is no longer required. At that point I may be able to
actually sit down on a Sunday afternoon and watch a football game instead of
having to work on my computer again.

The first question is WHY is Python or PHP the only choice?
Apache/Tomcat is available for pretty much any *nix platform, which
means you can run JSP/servlets.

If the answer is "because they want it that way," then it's time to hit
the 'Net. There are approximately 7.2 gillion websites with PHP
information, and not a small number with Python.

While Python is said to be easier than PHP, PHP is far more established,
including it's own domain. Check out PHP.net, and specifically their
tutorial:

http://us2.php.net/tut.php

For Python, it's primary page is python.org, with a ton of documentation
including a tutorial.
