The first question is WHY is Python or PHP the only choice?
Apache/Tomcat is available for pretty much any *nix platform, which
means you can run JSP/servlets.

If the answer is "because they want it that way," then it's time to hit
the 'Net.  There are approximately 7.2 gillion websites with PHP
information, and not a small number with Python.

While Python is said to be easier than PHP, PHP is far more established,
including it's own domain.  Check out PHP.net, and specifically their
tutorial:

For Python, it's primary page is python.org, with a ton of documentation
including a tutorial.
