In general, journals are recommended over triggered log files. The reason being that a skilled user can do a UPDDTA on the log file and you'd never know. However if someone mucks with a journal, it will leave a gap. Any gaps might be harder to track down who did what, but at least you'll know that someone was mucking with it.
