We at RJS Systems have a nice product called RPG2SQL Integrator that lets you talk to any SQL database (actually anything that can be accessed with OLE/DB) from an RPG ILE program. I know you prefer not to buy something else, but I'll take a shot. It includes a PC component that relays requests to the Oracle or MySQL or SQL Server database. Both reads and writes are possible. You only need some kind of OLE/DB provider for Oracle on a Windows box.

Heh! I keep typing "verndor response" ;-)

Beyond that, Oracle has (used to have?) something called Access Manager for AS/400. You can look it up on Google at Oracle's site. There are also Java solutions - dig around at www.iseries.ibm.com/db2 - look up "heterogeneous" there.

I would like to be able to read an Oracle 9i table that is on a Windows 2003 server from an AS/400 application. We currently exchange files though the IFS, but this is a nightly batch job. I would like to read the table on demand, hopefully without having to buy any more software. I have looked at the archives and the info center for ODBC, but didn't see anything that seemed to fit. Most of the articles I saw were about connecting a PC to the AS/400 via ODBC, and the code examples were for Visual Basic or in C. I would be coding the program in ILERPG or CL. I know there is a Oracle Access Manager out there, but it seems unlikely that this is a free product.

Any suggestions or ideas? Additional places to search? Manuals to read (I have looked and not seen anything so far)?

Thanks
