I have three clients running HTE, and they are generally happy with the
software and the company. You need to use the software the way HTE
envisions it, the users need to attend the regional and national user
groups. I used the software for two months, and was generally unhappy with
it (although I was thrilled by the support), and then attended (with a
client) a regional user group, and was blown away by the diversity of
function available.

>From a technical perspective, the quality of the various modules varies.
For example there are modules that have (what it effectively) self managing
journals written BEFORE IBM provided that support. Very impressive. On
the other hand, there are modules that look like poorly ported S/36 code.
Everything I have seen runs natively. There is a browser based interface
called Navaline that is extremely impressive.

Richard,
If you mean SunGard HTE, I would say it has to do with their business
strategy.
