Another item which surprised me, and how we were able to cut back was the
cost of the goodies for the first-timers ice cream social. When we were in
Denver, we were charged about $9 per person for the ice cream and cookies!
This, of course included the labor to serve. For the Indy conference, we
served ice cream bars on a stick. Everybody was still happy, and we paid <$3
per person. Maria DiNatale of COMMON's staff made the suggestion to switch,
and when I heard the prices, it took me all of 2 seconds to approve it.

Copy costs are huge, hence the push to get ALL handouts that make sense onto
CD's. Handouts for labs, etc. will still be on paper. We're on the path to
be as much of a paperless conference as possible.

Anyone with other cost saving suggestions, let John & Janet know off list.
Perhaps they'll at some point publish a summary here.
