Zak,

As I'm not coming at this from a developer point of view, I must admit to
having some similar thoughts to Jeff, and I use a PC and a Playstation at
home for playing games and relaxing - when I can fight my two boys and wife
off it!!

I also cook, garden and read .....this is sounding like a CV !!

I also have a varied music taste- but have only heard of Primal Scream of
the bands on the website (is this a sign of getting old!!)

Jamie

Zak, you need to get out more, meet girls (I'm assuming you are male), drink
beer, play football; AS/400s are WORK. I can understand if you use one for
self education, to a point. You will get no thank$ from your employer for
these activities. When I go home I enjoy cooking, woodworking. My PC is
normally quite cold except at month end when I do my accounts. I stop
thinking os/400 when I climb into my car to go home. My father, Ernie Bull
the Wise, had a saying (knowing him, stolen from someone else) - "all work
and no play, makes Zak a dull boy".

P.S. I like the look of your website.

I'm one of those freaks, and I know there are a couple more listening.

I have an Xbox, but I barely touch it. It just "feels" like a waste of time.

I'd rather develop my programming skill on my AS/400 than play a pointless
video game. To me, the process of solving a programming problem is itself a
(sometimes frustrating) game of sorts, but gives me greater satisfaction
when resolved and eventually evolves into a complete application. I wouldn't
need an AS/400 for that, of course, but if I can, why not use the best (note
the swelling pride)? I have to have some tangible goal to keep myself
interested, so I developed a website that included another interest, and
that's what I use the home machine for (www.distortion.us).

There are other views, of course. My roommate is also an AS/400 developer,
but couldn't care less about it once he leaves the office.
