At this point, of our 8 systems, only 1 is at V5R2, but we are in the midst of upgrading all of our systems. I anticipate having about 4 or 5 by Thanksgiving. I am not saying that V5R2 is without bugs, and I am still haggling with IBM about some stuff that I consider to be bugs, and stuff that they say is OK. (It's not called "working as designed", but more like "working as coded".) But V5R2 is probably the best RISC release I have ever seen. Is it still early, yes. But it's good. Probably waiting for the first post G/A cum is a good strategy. Are you advising and taking your customers to V5R2 as soon as in is available? Is this a more prudent risk then prior releases at this stage? -- Subject: Re: upgrade To: midrange-l@midrange.com From: "Al Barsa" <barsa@barsaconsulting.com> Sender: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com Precedence: bulk Reply-To: midrange-l@midrange.com Date: Sat, 24 Aug 2002 06:51:32 -0700 I love V5R2. I should point out that one of the vulnerabilities of upgrading from V4R5 to anything higher is that mis-coded trigger programs will start to fail. This can be a huge problem. I've heard that V5R2 is more stable than V5R1 and it may be advantageous to upgrade directly to V5R2. What is your opinions on this issue?
