We are about to cutover to Domino on an iSeries. After comparing the costs for Exchange and Domino, the prices were rather close. IBM DASD was killing our Domino price - so we opted for disks from BCC Technologies (who actually use IBM drives while IBM is shipping Seagate drives...). Domino on the iSeries may be your most best bet if you want a large, highly supported platform. You could always go the *NIX route with sendmail as the smtp daemon, but you would be pretty much limited to pop/imap mail (albeit at only the cost of hardware). You could get some other freeware for webmail as well. You could get an iSeries and LPAR it with a Linux and then you would be assured of stable hardware. Lotus is doing some great things now. You aren't stuck with the Notes client. You can use any POP client as well. Also, if you want the full functionality of your mail file, you can use iNotes Web Access or iNotes for Outlook.
