I wasn't even going to mention that absurd issue. I just paid Microsoft
$2000 for a copy of basically EVERY piece of business software they have
under the MSDN Universal subscription. That's VS.NET including all
compilers, Office, SQL, Exchange, Biz Talk, all the operating systems, Map
Point, Visio, Project, basically everything that isn't a game. Hell, I can
even install some of it on multiple machines -- legally.

I understand that IBM has to charge for the hardware, after all there is a
cost per unit to produce. But their cost for software is the price to press
a CD, I'm not even sure they can measure that it's so small why the hell
should they charge the ISVs for software?

We had been seriously considering getting a system under this lease - the
rise to 1.75% has put it out of reach.

Maybe Al can afford it, but we can't.  It is not just the cost of the
machine, but also the software that you have to consider.  I suspect that Al
has a high enough membership level in PartnerWorld that he gets most of the
software on these systems free-of-charge.

I agree with the sentiments of others on this list that at a time when IBM
are supposedly trying to attract developers to the platform this is an
idiotic move.
