Chuck,

I have setup a Cisco Router ( at H/O) based VPN - type of connection
depends on what you want eg: ISDN,DDS,Frame,DSL,Etc.

This is based in Australia.

I then have VPN clients (Softkey from Cisco )with 56K modems dialing
in from Southern China. They use a 5250 client ( not CA as we had some
connection/performance issues )and a local printer. It works fine.

All you need to hook up the VPN at Home if you dont have a LAN now,
is a small 4 port Hub/switch to connect the AS/400 to the Router,
The comms connection ( eg: DSL)to connect the Router to the Internet,
an Ethernet card in the AS/400 ( with TCP/IP configured ).

A bit of configuration - and hey presto!
( its not quite that easy, but it does all work..)

Ian.

That's part of the problem, they have regular old modems, no cable or DSL...

Are you thinking that nothing I do will provide a reasonable increase in
speed
until we get off of modems ?

Our situation is that we are a small company and the sales folks are
responsible
for their own computers, etc. so cable modems or DSL might not be an
option...
