Chuck,

Assuming the sales force has access to high-speed Internet (DSL or Cable)
VPN is an excellent way of accessing a LAN remotely. Assuming that your
AS/400(s) are on the LAN, you're in! Using VPN to the network rather than
directly to the AS/400 gives them all the access to email, spreadsheets,
etc.

Subject: AS/400 Access via the Internet

Hi Folks,

We are looking at different ways to access our AS/400 so Sales folks can
get needed info. Currently we have a communications server running
Synapse software that they dial into.

We are getting complaints about slow response and I know that this being
caused by old lines, phone switches, etc. in the areas some of these
folks live in.

Question was asked if it might be faster via the internet (they are
looking at cable and DSL at home) and I'm not sure.

Any ideas on this ?

Thanks !

Chuck
