Leif,

The story that I have been given on this is that certain countries (Germany for
example) have certain laws against public displays of price and other type of
product to product comparisons.  Therefore, a price/performance comparison or
perhaps even a performance comparison via the Web (ie: public) might cause
trouble for companies.  I heard this statement from Richard Odell at a COMMON
session years ago....perhaps someone from IBM could help clarify this.....I am
just repeating what I heard so don't flame me for any inaccuracies....

This kind of information can go a long way to helping customers.  Even if the
AS/400 does lousy at the lower end it would give us much credence to ask for
more logical pricing on the low end.  Which I think is a major weakness in
AS/400, oops I mean iSeries, oops I mean IBM marketing (is that an oxymoron?).
How many web sites and data warehouses start out small and then grow?  Once
entrenched into an existing technology only a handful will ever make it out of
the legacy system.  And they wonder why they are losing market share.....sorry I
digress.

Now, why are customers not allowed to see this information?
It does concern them the most, doesn't it? Real information
(such as performance, prices, etc) about the e(logo) etc
is like information coming out of China about the spy plane:
Real information is POWER. By giving out real information
you are giving away power, thus the reluctance.
