Date: Sat, 31 Mar 2001 10:10:26 -0500 I remember years ago coming across a French magazine. I was browsing through it, not understanding a word, when I came across a little cartoon. A little boy is getting ready for bed, and obviously he is asking his mother to read him a bed time story. In the next panel she is reading a Basic language. It had never occurred to me before, that Basic was English, and that someone from a different country would have a much harder time programming in it. For I = 1 to 10 Print I Next I I wonder how difficult it would be for the compiler creators to have different versions of compiler op codes for different languages? I don't think it would be that difficult, but it would add a great complexity to the compilers. (Some of them run it was the primary language, others as the secondary language. One of the reasons that I have heard this is that non-English speaking folks complain about the quality if the translation They comment to me that to write programs on an AS/400 , you just about have to speak English. All of the languages (exclude C if you will) are abbreviations of English.
