Here the Vice President of Information Systems attends all the divisions
strategic
planning sessions. The company has a diagram of the four pillars of it. One
of
the pillars is Information Systems.

On the other hand, I've worked for a IS consulting firm where one of the VP's
viewed
programmers as an unnecessary expense. But, heck, with a 15 person company
complete
with a president, three vice presidents, marketing guy, receptionist and the
rest
being 'unnccessary expense' any guess why they went under?

This I can agree with, both from the view of an employee and as a
consultant, as I have been both. I quite often see that the head of IS
is not a corporate officer and doesn't even attend the high level staff
meetings. Rather they get the corporate strategy secondhand through
the CFO, controller or head the head of HR.
