Jim,

I don't know how sensitive the data is, but if you want to send me a copy 
I'll see what it does on one of my machines. Assuming it's not a million 
record file of course...

Speaking of copying the file, you could try using CPYF to copy all of the 
records except the ones that have the packed data in the alpha field and then 
see if you have the problem with the copy.
