You are correct.  In fact, you can call the systems by any name you wish
(easy now, don't let management know about some of your choices, though).
Not only that, you can refer to any IP address with any of up to four
system names, such as:


(excerpts from \windows\hosts file)
10.1.25.1 mainsys as400-ether ethernet big-guy
10.1.26.1 tr as400-token token-ring i-hope-this-works

You can use any of the following names to access the .25.1 address:
   mainsys
   as400-ether
   ethernet
   big-guy

The AS/400 does not have knowledge of what system name you used to access
it.  This is standard TCP/IP fact.
