That would all be true, unless your DNS provides that translation (which
any DNS can do).  Note that appn.sna.ibm.com would be an internal-only
domain name.

Also, if you're only using the appn.sna.ibm.com address for e-mail
translation:
  1) why not use your company address instead?
  2) your sendmail configuration can translate that into
     as400a1.your.domain.name
