Simon, Good questions! But I've not implemented an arp server, so I don't know how these things usually happen. Most of the serial devices we've integrated with our products support reverse ARP and once you've run the command you can telnet or set your browser to the device to do configuration tasks. I would guess that once the IP address gets assigned the telnet and http servers are restarted with it. But I'm just guessing. I'll see if I can ferret this out the next time I talk to one of our suppliers. I think most of the terminal support is set up on a new AS/400 when it gets shipped from IBM. The last RISC system we set up was pretty easy. We used the PC console to sign on, assigned an IP address, started the interface and TCP/IP, and then used TN5250 to log on. But I'm by no means very knowledgable about installing AS/400s!
