I read Jeff Tenner's article on this. I am trying this. We have a couple
Domino partitions on our AS/400. One server is called NOTES01. The other
is called NOTES02. They are synchronized. NOTES02 is used only for backup
purposes. I thought - great use compressed DASD for this one. We've had
the compressed DASD set up in asp02. So I did the CRTUDFS followed by the
MOUNT. Only I tried, originally, to do it over directory
'/notes02/notes/data'.
Starting the Domino server resulted in LNT0921-11. I forgot to do the CHGAUT.
So I did the CHGAUT. This time, when I attempted to start the Domino server,
I got a LNT0928-1. So I unmounted and remounted it to
'/NOTES02/NOTES/DATA/MAIL'.
Now I can start the Domino server. I couldn't get to NSF files already there.
I could re replicate them and then this would work.

I realize he was talking about archiving data, but for my situation,
compressed DASD should work. Then I just need to bring down one Domino
server and back it up and get all data.
