Bradley Stone wrote to midrange-l: It does work in all other aspects. I have been playing around with sending PCL to it with the WSCST. It still seems to always want to pull from the 11x17 even though I tell it in the escape codes that when the printer output is 10cpi to use letter. Since I tried that it pulls 11x17 and formats the data to fit proportionally to the way it did on8.5x11 (right side and bottom have large blank areas.) I guess I will have to call HP to get the printer codes and make sure I'm sending the right ones. I haven't yet seen printer codes for the 11x17 tray in their documentation. Bradley V. Stone bvstone@taylorcorp.com http://prairie.lakes.com/~bvstone/ Dear Bradley, The problem you have been seeing is caused by a feature of the HP PCL language. The PCL language includes a pyramid scheme for certain printer operations. The scheme describes the relative importance of certain HP PCL commands, as compared to others, which may be required for the execution of particular printer operation. When changing input trays using PCL commands, the page size command is the most important command in the pyramid. Thus if different source drawers include different page sizes in a particular printer, your application needs to define the page size being requested as well as the target input tray. When both commands are used by an application the printer will change from the currently active input tray to the one which is being requested. Typically the problem you have described is seen most often with printer's that include an envelope feeder. Everything is working fine until you print an envelope. Once you have made the envelope feeder active, you are unable to leave because the application is requesting another tray without specifying the paper size the printer should use. It knows that an envelope paper size is currently active and that tray 1 has for example LETTER paper in it. It checks the tray requested by the application, finds that the requested tray does not have envelopes in it, and therefore prints the job being received on envelope stock. The same thought process is occurring in your HP5si regarding trays with Letter and Ledger paper in them. I saw your follow-up post that changing the Workstation Customization Object to an HP selection solved your tray selection problem. This is most likely because the HP WSCST includes paper size information as part of its construction. HTH /Paul -- Paul Tykodi, Technical Director E-mail: pault@praim.com Praim Inc.
