Technical Conference

I'm talking here as a speaker not an attendee, but here's my 2c worth ........

To my mind the major differences between the Tech Conf and COMMON are that
Common attracts between 3,500 and 5,000 people.
The Tech Conf on the other hand attracts between 750 and 1,000.

Other than in the halls, the only "official" Common networking spot
is Cuds in the evening. Tech Conf folks eat breakfast and lunch together
each day plus an opening day "social" and a gala dinner. The smaller
numbers and mealtime "togetherness" make it easy to network and meet
new folks. For the gregarious among us, doing this at Common is no
problem but some find it a lot easier at the Tech Conf. Speakers also
eat with the students so there are additional opportunities to meet
and ask questions without having to "pounce" in the corridors.

I also find as a speaker that the 1.5 hour format is _way_ better than
Common's one hour sessions (which I hate) since it gives plenty of
opportunity for questions and to deal in greater depth with any topic
that the audience are having problems with.
