I would think  6 digit date like this could be done as  long as it was non
ambiguous to the  end user.  From a systems  I/O  view  a windowing
technique might be used to handle the date as it  was meant in context.
Depends on your tool and methodology for the Application(s).

What if you have a birthday in 1939? On or about the pivot year?
