 IMHO, since you are changing your DB, use the date data types.  It will
make it a lot easier for future projects in several areas, most notably when
using Query or SQL.

 This also assumes that you will convert your code to RPG IV, since RPG
III/400 is not as easy to work w/ the date data types.
