Thanks for the help, Kevin. I'm actually very comfortable coding in the
windows environment. I might tackle using VA RPG for this inquiry app. I
just have to ask myself if it's worth it to spend the time to do it. Like I
mentioned earlier, I thought everything ran on the 400. I too am running
v4r5 of the OS. Ya see, I want to write this app so that I don't have to get
called on the weekend when a user isn't seeing what they think is going down
to the stores. If I write and app that requires a client piece, then I'm
back to where I started.....having to get on the system, download the client
side to their PC, etc, etc. I'm sure it's probably a pretty cool tool, but
it sounds like it might not fit the need right now.

So, you work for Saucony, huh? We buy your shoes!!! ha ha.

Hi Chris
The first few times you experiment with VARPG it will be a learning
experience because you do not know the IDE. Also if you are not familiar
with programming in a windows environment you will have that learning curve
to conquer. I am at the V4R5 release so I may differ a little bit from you.
If you start VARPG and go into the GUI designer under Help there is a
tutorial. Also there are some sample projects , each showcasing a particular
tool, e.g. subfile, drop down box, calendar ...

Email me if you have any questions.

Hi all,

I have never written anything in VA RPG, but I have the opportunity (and the
desire) to write an inquiry display with a GUI interface on the AS/400. I
believe it's going to be relatively simple to write, IF I can figure out how
to use VA RPG! (minor detail! ha ha) I'm using the V5R1 version of the
WebSphere Development Tools for iSeries. I've also loaded the SP3. I would
like to use the VA RPG Projects. Anyway, now for my question.....Is there a
tutorial somewhere that would help me understand how VA RPG works, or is it
more complicated than I invision? If it is, forget it! ha ha. I'd
appreciate any input.

Thanks,

Chris Proctor
