The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
1) Yes. SQL has incredibly powerful functions for processing both XML and JSON as well as accessing web services, we use these to interact with SOAP web services outside of our company.
2) I don't know about IWS but the SQL web service functions are relatively easy to use
3) Yes. Most of what I do is new code fortunately 🙂, however, it's at least 70% SQL these days, either embedded into RPG or as stored procedures. I can't remember the last time I used native I/O to read anything. SQL can take a while to master but it's vital and once you are used to it, it's very hard to go back to the old ways IMO.
Tim.

Subject: [WEB400] Is the game worth the candle?
I am curious about three 21st Century things that may be way above my
level of understanding, and they relate to json and the average RPG
programmer:
1. Can average RPG programmer's, using only SQLRPGLE skills, send and
retrieve .json data?
2. If so, can average programmers be taught IWS and httpgetclob in two
sessions?
3. Most importantly, are there RPG shops out there still writing new code?
