Have you verified that the mail server is running on port 25 and that you
can connect to it from the IBMi?

In other words did you try to telnet to the mail server on port 25 from the
greenscreen or pase?

I never used mail() on the IBMi. My first instinnt was to say that it only
uses an external SMTP server on windows. However, it seems that (at least
12 years ago) the IBMi version of mail() works like windows and not like
unix.
