Correction time. WebSphere is not a thing of the past, and on IBM i it is
included with your operating system license. Now, I would not
necessarily use full blown WebSphere when starting out with Web Services.
There are many other options that the IBM i programmer will find easier
to consume then doing the heavy lifting them selfs.
The Integrated Web Services (IWS) support is part of the IBM i OS,
supported on 7,1 and higher. Allows for SOAP or REST based web services.

Get the latest DG1 PTF Group and you have the most current support ( on
any supported release) This support leveraged the Liberty web container
along with JAx-WS and JAX-RS. The Web Admin GUI interface gives the IBM i
programmer a super easy way to create and host their Web Services.

     Jim,
Spend some time at Apache.org and take a good look at Tomcat or go look
at JBOSS both are free open source servers. WebSphere is virtually a
thing of the past. It makes no sense to spend the money on WebSphere
     today.
