I think Oracle would have a hard time closing off Java.I believe OpenJDK is under GPL _2_, and the IP-stuff got in with GPL _3_, so that does not apply. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
1) OpenJDK is GPL'd, which carries IP license grant with it, as long as the derivative is GPL'd. It'd be procedurally easy to fork it and do an end-run around license fees.
