I have a an apache server in front of my iSeries. The front end server is
doing a web service call to the back end i. The front end isn't doing any
checking for bots and such - it's just passing the IP address of its
incoming connection to the back end i. But, if I can change the front end
server to monitor for bots, I can stop it from passing bogus IP addresses
back to the i.

Ok Michael

Just for clarity what do you mean by cutting it off at the pass (how will
you approach this?)

Just interested

Thanks Maurice. On further review, I'm realizing that I can 'cut this
stuff
of at the pass', so maybe my processing RPG program doesn't have to worry
about this.

There is a nobots Ajax control in the asp.net Ajax toolkit

As the source for this can be downloaded it may be worth looking at the
code which you may be able to adapt for your own purposes.

I have a geocoding application where I take an incoming IP address and
determine the metro code. I'm getting hit with tons (seems like tons)
of
bots. What's a good way of identifying bots? If I can identify them, I
can
not perform the geocode function.

Thanks...
