It's been a few days since I've seen a post here so I figured I'd answer this old thread to see if it was still active and put in a gratuitous self plug for the blog at the same time ;-)

For those looking for details on what exactly is free, here ya go!

Such as?

There are other open source IDEs that are better than studio.

I am wondering the same thing. Also are you talking about Aptana 2? If
so, then you are 100% right. Aptana 1.5 had an open source PHP editor made
by Aptana that was pretty darn good. I am not an Aptana fanboy by any
stretch. If you can point me to something better, by all means do so.

Also, this whole topic is very subjective. For me personally, I like
sticking to Eclipse editors when I can because I have become very familiar
with the interface. That's the main reason I haven't tried NetBeans for
editing PHP.
