I don't know about Apache - it came as part of a package of payable
software I know
as i5/OS ...

But the big difference between most Open Source markets and iSeries Open
Source
market is the numbers ...

Do you think I can sell advertising space with 1.000 unique visitors a
month ???

Ah, I see. So you don't like the free ride you are getting with Apache on
IBM i? <tic>

In reality, the frameworks/tools/utilities that are "free ride", that have
a
strong community of believers, that have good documentation, and have a
growth path for paid support, will do better than any commercial offering.
The plethora of formal software on apache.org is a testament to that - you
can hardly argue with their success. I am not saying they are perfect,
but
they certainly are doing something right. I recognize that it isn't
"free"
because there are man hours involved, but the model most definitely works.

Thoughts?

I have never believed that there is a "free ride" in this life - a wise
man
once told me that "everything has its price" - and while I'm getting

I'm afraid that he was right.

There is no "pretend" in a dual license model - it is clear to all - and
if
an iSeries installation really wants to make a future developing
strategy
of their business critical solutions into a question of whether or not
to
pay a 600$ license and still expect support of their downloaded software
-
"they may be better of on a camel".
