Nice! Thanks for sharing. I wonder if you could use "drag" positioning and allow a mouse down event to grab and drag it. That would be pretty cool as well.

I was in the same boat. I couldn't understand it either, conceptually. But then our Business Development Director came up with the following static prototype:

You must try both vertical and horizontal scrolling to see the effect. Then it makes sense.

Of course, it's just a prototype at this point. But it seems like a design pattern that could be used for several types of applications. There has been a lot of discussion recently about various interfaces between IBM i data and Excel spreadsheets. Maybe another option would be to just offer a spreadsheet-like experience in a Web application. Drop Excel from the mix. Any thoughts?
