I asked my colleague who uses XML more than I - he likes using collections for multiples of an item within a parent node, it helps with iterating over the nodes, since you can find the <children> node directly, then navigate through the <child> nodes.

Not my knowledge here - just passing on the opinion of a guy I respect.
