My experience with both Zend sales and support has been positive.
Yes, they'd like to sell support and training (PHP classes) for Zend Core i5. They are a business. The whole point of a business is to make a profit in a way that also gives something of value to your customer.
I guess it depends on how you approach the calls: an annoying waste of your time, or a chance to learn something new and build positive business relationships.

Since Zend Core is free, I guess the only way they make money is by selling add-ons like training, support and Zend Platform. Don't worry though, nothing will stop working if you don't buy support.
I had a similar problem with them trying to sell us Zend Platform. I usually got them off the phone by saying, "I'm busy". Finally, I got so annoyed I told them they were calling me too much and we were a smaller company and don't have the kind of traffic that Zend Platform is intended to help with. That was the last cold call I received . Not sure if they noted my frustration or if all it took was me telling them "no". They are pushy and need to lighten up with the sales calls before they scare people way from PHP, but giving them a definitive answer took care of the calls for me.

Why is Zend pushing the support of the Zendcore product on the iSeries so much?
They are relentless in trying to get me to pay for support for what I thought was supposed to be a free product.
What is the deal?
Will my PHP server suddenly stopped working if I don't purchase a support contract or what?
This is worse than having the Jehovah's Witnesses knocking on my door all the time.
